2020 Retrospect in January 2021
2020 has been a roller coaster year, so many ups and downs that we have all shared together, unfortunately mostly from a distance. It has been a year where digital meetings have been the norm and admittedly has provided access to many conversations, whether it be via ZOOM, Webinar or CISCO that would not have been possible otherwise.
The museum has been able to expand its collaborations with national and international institutions.
It is an added plus to be part of various networks (NASC, NAN, NiCHE, mmBE etc.) with whom we can cooperate, while sharing knowledge and experiences, albeit digitally at the moment.
It has been also a year to nurture the seeds that were planted in 2019. Our publication: Art as a Mirror of Science (in German: Kunst als Spiegel der Wissenschaft) has become available and is one result of an ongoing international interdisciplinary collaboration.
Our presence on social media, Facebook and Instagram: museumcerny, thanks to the addition to our team, Martin Schultz, has markedly improved, as well as, on the internet as a result of his articles regularly appearing in PolarJournal.
The collections have been enlarged by 34 artworks during 2020. We are grateful to the donors and look forward to be able to present them to our visitors in hopefully the near future.
Three temporary exhibitions were shown in 2020. From 2019 to March „Textiles Talking. Traditional clothing and the preservation of culture in Canada, Guatemala and Switzerland“, from June to October „Sedna - The Legend Continues“ and since October (and until March 2021) „Voices from the Arctic“.
For 2021 the museum has planned a great program of fascinating exhibitions along with conversations about them. We look forward to your visit when we’re open again!
